#10: Ayutthaya Today

In one year, there are so many tourists come to travel in Thailand. Ayutthaya is one of the famous central provinces in Thailand. In formal name call “Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya” and in my viewpoint, it’s the first choice in their mind who loves to know about history, archaeological site, lifestyle of local people, or old capital city. So, let’s know about the simple information of this province in Thailand.

History
If we talk about the history of Ayutthaya, I’m afraid don’t be sleep tonight. So, I will tell you all just an essence of the story. Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong. It was the capital of Thailand (then called Siam) for 417 years from 1350 until it was sacked by the Burmese army in 1767. Notable monarchs during the Ayutthaya period include King Naresuan the Great, who liberated Ayutthaya from the first Burmese occupation and embarked on a reign of conquest. The city was positioned in a strategic position. During several months of the year, the flood plains around the cities would be flooded by the many rivers around the city. Enemy sieges were thus impossible, and forced to withdraw. This advantage was a contributing factor in the many failed Burmese invasions. And this is a proud award of the ruins of the old capital in the Ayutthaya historical park have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 1991.

Geography
Ayutthaya, covering 2,556 square kilometers, is located in the flat river plain of the Chao Phraya river valley. The presence of the Lop Buri and Pa Sak rivers makes the province a major rice farming area. There are many local people are farmers, the main earning a living of that local community become agriculture in here for a long time.
Population
As for me, in this province have so many factories mostly Japanese so that make people from everywhere in Thailand come into Ayutthaya to applying a job. Therefore, it will have both local people; was born in Ayutthaya and non- native people that come from another province and another country such as Japanese and still live here. So, in Ayutthaya have numerous people that come from numerous places.
Agriculture
The people of Ayutthaya were originally farmers who worked in the fields. So, rice is the main industry agriculture in Ayutthaya and builds earning a living for many local people.

Products

In Ayutthaya have various famous products such as Palm Leaf Fish Mobile, Bamboo Fan, Palm Leaf Hat, and Roti Sai Mai. But for today I would like to present Roti Sai Mai because in my opinion, it like as a signature souvenir dessert from Ayutthaya. Many people choice it to get them back home for their family, friends, lovely people, etc. Roti Sai Mai is a cotton candy or candy floss and if you come to travel in Ayutthaya, you will see in a rainbow of colors. Sweet and Delicious!

 Famous temples
In Thailand is mostly Buddhist so I don’t wonder that why in Ayutthaya have so many temples. I will select two temples that are famous in Ayutthaya. The tourist must to go there. First, Wat Phra Si San Phet was the biggest temple in the area at its peak and is historically very significant. The temple is situated in a compound that was originally used as a royal palace and home to a number of kings during the Ayutthaya period.

Second, Wat Phra Mahathat is an impressive temple ruin originally constructed to house Buddha relics that mysteriously appeared to an early Ayutthaya king. Don’t miss if you were here the rows of headless Buddhas. One Buddha-head is in a tree trunk.
